Homosexuality

Today's blog will most likely strike a nerve either for or against. I want to state right now that I am not judging anyone about their life. This is about the action from a Biblical standpoint and we should strive to look at all topics such as this, as impartial as we can because it is God's place to judge and not ours.

I am read an article about the change in the pastor who was going to be delivering the benediction at the Presidential Inauguration on the 20th. Initially Rev. Louie Giglio, a pastor from Atlanta, was selected to deliver this prayer. It was then discovered that about 15 -20 years ago he delivered an anti-homosexual message, and regardless of the fact he has been working to combat slavery and sex trafficking he was not pro-homosexual enough for this role.

The act of homosexuality is a sin. As a church we should embrace and accept them into our fold, but not in leadership roles. We should accept them, love them, and try to show them the error in their ways. Society says it is not their fault and they are born that way. I agree completely, we are all born into sin and we all know there is an endless variety of sin, but through Christ we can overcome any sin, no matter the type. We just have to follow God's will and be accepting of His will unconditionally.

The Bible clearly states homosexuality is a sin:

"If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination." (Leviticus 20:13).

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion. ‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you." (Leviticus 18:22-24).

"as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." (Jude 7)

"Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." (Genesis 19:4-5)

"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men  nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God" 1 Cor 6:9-11

"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatians 5:19

I am in no way saying as a society we should deny them rights. Again if someone is gay that is between them and God, but if they have a partner they should be able to include them on medical benefits, life insurance, etc. The way I see that is the person working is paying for the benefits and they should be able to cover someone who lives within their home and is an active part of their life.

What about marriage? Another current hot topic...Marriage is reserved for a man and a woman. Marriage is not only a promise to each other made before God, but it is mutually made to God. You are agreeing to stand by your husband or wife and live accordance to His laws. Marriage is a sacred agreement that is only for man and woman. If it had been intended for man-man or woman-woman the scriptures about it would have been written so. If they are going to live that lifestyle there should be a civil union or such to ensure coverage on medical benefits, etc but marriage should be man and woman.

" “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”" Matthew 19:4-6

"Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.  The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.  The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.  Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that." 1 Cor 7:1-6

In conclusion, although homosexuality is clearly defined as a sin it is not our place to judge or deny any civil rights to gays. We should accept them into our churches and love them as brothers and sisters in Christ because He is the way, the truth, and the light and He can help anyone correct the errors of their ways if they will allow Him.

  1. I agree whole heartedly, as you have said and shown the bible has made it clear. It is unfortunate that a lot of Christians seem to choose what laws to obey and what ones to ignore. Christians in general seem to choose to ignore laws and rules if any of them might offen someone.
I am now a fan of your work and will follow you closely.
    May God Bless you.
